Thank you once again for granting me a sneaky peek into what is bound to be a monumental release. I shall be keeping a very sharp eye out for the full bottle drop!

It's unmistakable Beaufort with the signature birch tar smokiness opening giving way to a sharp saltiness which feels close to Cape Wrath and very much evokes the crashing ocean spray mixed with dry woody tobacco notes which linger for hours on my skin. Another classic to add to my collection.

A wonderful concoction of deep but fresh tobacco, facets of leather and wood all infused with a smoky tar and mineralic outer layer, Its heavenly and just so wearable.
I can't find anything to dislike, I'll take a full bottle please....cmon, asap. 😆

On application, Sunken Tobacco presents as a powerful, smoky tobacco with a weighty depth and a warmth reminiscent of a spiced cocoa. The trademark Beaufort embrace of the primal chaos of the sea and the natural world is present here with sea spray, mineral salt and the fathoms of ocean weight layering a damp shroud over the entire composition.

As it settles a spectral sweetness haunts the edges of the dry down. A faint spiced rum and waterlogged honey is given motion by the ebb and flow of deep currents; appearing and then retreating back into the dark, never outstaying its welcome. At some point a bottle of liquor spilled on a cigar box, the liquid soaking into the woods and illuminating and embracing the leaf inside.

The fragrance sits on a base of dark woods together with notes that embrace the warmth in the darkness such as spiced vanillas and old ambers. The tobacco endures throughout. Not sweet, but rich and earthy with a grounding density.

Sunken Tobacco is not a syrupy, molasses driven affair, desperate to be seen at a late night gourmand after show party. It exists in a much quieter place, sombre, reserved and preserved, effortlessly connecting its natural roots with the elemental chaos of the sea.

And in those depths, over decades or centuries of time, this tobacco endured and gradually suffered a sea-change, into something rich and strange.

I’m not a writer or fragrance expert so won’t try and improve on the words that Suzy Nightingale said on the recent On the Scent podcast re Sunken Tobacco. To me her impressions are spot on. However, what I can describe is the emotion this stunning fragrance gave me. It reminded me so strongly of my beloved father who died many years ago. Somehow it weaved together an image of snippets of my time with him that had all occurred but never in this sequence….

I’ve been sailing with Dad and he’s had to go away on business. I miss him and I sneak into the music room where he relaxes. As he will be away on a long trip I’m wearing one of his jumpers to comfort me. I find his tobacco tin and sniff it - its aroma is strong and l wonder why it smells so great in the tin but so awful when lit in the pipe. I snuggle into the sofa and notice there’s a faint whiff of something else - he’s probably had an after dinner coffee and snifter of a spirit before he’s gone away. I fall asleep and wake many hours later. The intensity of the tobacco has faded but I’m basked in a warm glow of subtle salty aromas - a combination of my salty skin post sailing and the comfort of Dad’s well worn jumper.

So apart from loving tobacco and this perfume I will be purchasing it as soon as it’s live as it brings back so many memories of Dad although he obviously never wore this.
For me it's up there with FathomV, Vi et Armis and Absent Presence.

Such a nice fragrance that flows and is a comfortable wear.
Its evolution on the skin is steady and stable with components blending together to form the whole. It doesn't shout and it doesn't shock, it knows what it is and its worth.
Another reason to add to my Beaufort collection.

Could potentially be my new favourite smoke ,leather ,rum/whisky?

Sunken Tobacco gallops through BeauFort’s early hits: the acetic tobacco in Vi et Armis and the gingery birch tar in Coeur de Noir - maybe even echoes of gunpowder and leather from Tonnerre and Iron Duke. Liquorice slightly sweetens the middle; sandwiched between charred cedar on one side and subtle aromatic complexity on the other. Holds its own in Force Majeure – it’ll still punch you in the face… but perhaps with less nihilism than Pyroclasm and more grunt than Cape Wrath.

An absolutely great scent. The tobacco is there and its dry but has a freshness to it. I'm not sure of all the notes but I pick a minty facet. Its smoky tobacco with a hint of sweetness. If could compare it then it would be the love child of Amouage's Royal tobacco and Enclave. I'm all here for this and will certainly be looking at a full bottle.

What an amazing scent. Definitely full bottle worthy. Literally every fragrance sold by Beaufort is distinctive and long-lasting. The worst of them is “Very Good” and the others go all the way up to “Superb”.

What can I say. This is exactly what it says it is but Is powerful and subtle at the same time.

Rarely am I struck by a perfume when first experiencing it for the first time. They usually take time to grow on me. However, Sunken Tobacco was an immediate like. I keep going back to it to draw in its heady, and boy are they heady, notes. It’s a deep, smoky, seductive scent that just keeps giving. I like smoky scents, and Sunken Tobacco is like a smoky diamond, with so many facets, it can be quite dazzling, like being caught in a paparazzi’s camera flash. I love it. It has seduced me!

Warm without a trace of sweetness, which is rare for a tobacco, it reads as smoked leaf rather than anything cigarette or honeyed. Well executed and very coherent. On me it sits between Coeur de Noir and Fathom V: the leaf from one, the depth from the other, without the ink or the seaweed. One spray, 6 hours, projection close. I'd buy it as written.
